Summer in Mikkeli is filled with magic! Join the Harry Potter fun and enjoy top concerts and delightful activities during the Mikkeli Music Festival 28.7.–5.8.2023 

The Mikkeli Music Festival brings a touch of Harry Potter magic to Mikkeli in the heart of Finnish Lakeland this summer. There will be two Harry Potter in Concert concerts at the Mikkeli Music Festival and magical programme around the city, including a magic wand workshop, broom riding, Harry Potter films, and much more. Dress up as a wizard and join the fun!

HARRY POTTER PROGRAMME DURING THE FESTIVAL WEEK

• Mon 31 July at 6 p.m.: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (with Finnish subtitles) at cinema Ritz
• Thu 3 August at 6 p.m.: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (with Finnish subtitles) at cinema Ritz
• Fri 4 August from 2 to 5 p.m.: magical programme in the main library of Mikkeli including children's workshop and selfies with Hedwig

Make your own wand, take a selfie with Hedwig, and ride a broom on Friday 4 August at the main library of Mikkeli

On Friday 4 August, the library of Mikkeli will host a magic wand workshop, and you can also identify Harry Potter plants, colour socks for Dobby, dress up as a wizard and take a selfie with Hedwig! There will also be a broom ride for all the plucky and brave ones in the Mikkeli Sali hall of the library.  

 PROGRAMME ON SATURDAY 5 AUGUST 

• 12–12:30 Anthony Gabriele, the conductor of Harry Potter in Concert concerts, visits the shopping centre Stella to talk about film music
• From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: fun programme for children and adults at the Mikkeli marketplace (rain check)
• From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.: festive buffet Hogwarts Great Hall style at the restaurant Pormestari
• From 12 a.m. to 2 a.m. Three Broomsticks pub open at Bar Dom (CANCELLED)
• At 7 and 9 p.m. Harry Potter in Concert in the Concert Hall Mikaeli 
• From 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.: Professor Trelawney's astrological night café at the Naisvuori observation tower

Two exquisite Harry Potter themed concerts at the Mikkeli Music Festival on Saturday 5 August

The authentic musicians of London Philharmonia, who performed the soundtrack of the Harry Potter films, with conductor Anthony Gabriele give two Harry Potter in Concert concerts in the Mikkeli Music Festival on Saturday 5 August. The first concert starts at 7 p.m. and the second at 9 p.m. at Mikaeli. The concerts last one hour.

Make sure to come to Mikael well before the concert start, as there will be some surprises! The doors open one hour before the concerts. 

Travel in a Harry Potter train carriage from Helsinki to Mikkeli to enjoy the Harry Potter concert on Saturday 5 August

Get a train+concert ticket and hop on board the S67 Harry Potter special train, S67 Hogwarts Express, from Helsinki on Saturday 5 August at 14:15! The train will get you to the Harry Potter concert well in time. On board, you'll be able to immerse in the magical world of Harry Potter, and you might even meet a character from one of the Harry Potter films. The musicians Juho Valjakka and Lotta Ahlbeck entertain the passengers with the actor Johanna Kuuva.

Fun events during the day and evening on Saturday 5 August

Mikkeli marketplace and Shopping Centre Stella

At the Mikkeli marketplace, there will be some fun programme for both young and old Harry Potter fans from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Watch a Quidditch show approximately 10 to 10.20 a.m., or take part in a Harry Potter quiz (for children from 10.15 to 10.45 and for adults 10.45 to 11.15), or go on a treasure hunt. You will get instructions for the treasure hunt from the wizards at the marketplace. The event at the marketplace is free for everyone. At the marketplace, there is also a Harry Potter flee market, where you can swap your own Harry Potter treasure to another one. 

Anthony Gabriele, the conductor of Harry Potter in Concert concerts, comes to the Shopping centre Stella at noon to talk about film music. 

In the Shopping Centre Stella, Children's Cultural Centre Vekkula, together with Mix Studio, will offer a magical show called Quidditch at both venues

Experience the magic of Quidditch! You will literally feel the pages of the Harry Potter books come to life as our readers lead you into the exciting world of Quidditch. Dancing and reading will transport you deeper into the magic of Hogwarts, as music invites you to join in the exhilarating rhythms.

The performance will take place at the marketplace at 10 to 10.20 a.m. and at the Shopping Centre Stella from 11 to 11.20. (The schedule may be subject to change.)

Restaurant Pormestari

Before the evening's concert, a Hogwarts Great Hall buffet will be served at the restaurant Vaiha Pormestari in the centre of Mikkeli from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The price for adults is 25 € and 20 € for those with a ticket to the Harry Potter in Concert concert. For children under 12 years, the price is 12,5 €. Make a table reservation at Pormestari. 

Pianist Juho Valjakka and Lotta Ahlbeck will entertain guests at ca. 17:30–17:50.

Café at the Naisvuori observation tower

After the Harry Potter in Concert, head towards the Naisvuori Tower café. Enjoy some mouth-watering waffles, immerse yourself in astrology and meet a friendly fortune teller! The fortune teller with her crystal ball is present from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. (if there are visitors).  Pianist Juho Valjakka and violinist Lotta Ahlbäck perform folk and jazz music at the café at 21:30 and 22:30.
