The Mikkeli region is located in the province of South Savo at the intersection of Highways 5 and 13 and the Savo railway line. It’s easy to get to by car, train or bus. The distance from Helsinki to Mikkeli is 230 kilometres and takes about 2.5 hours by car. The part of the region closest to Helsinki is Pertunmaa and you can reach the village of Kuortti in about 1 hour 45 minutes by car (172 km).
Due to its central location at the intersection of two important highways and the Savo railway line, Mikkeli receives more than 20 coaches and several intercity trains a day from the Helsinki region.
Get train timetables and tickets from the VR website www.vr.fi. Train tickets can also be bought from the self-service ticket machines at railway stations. The Mikkeli railway station is located only about 200 metres from the Mikkeli marketplace. The railway building contains waiting spaces, storage lockers, a self-service ticket machine and more. The waterway leading to Mikkeli is 2.4 metres deep and the passage under the bridge is 8.5 metres high.

There are paid and free roadside parking spaces in the city centre and a large paid car park under the marketplace (the entrance from Mannerheimintie street). Further away from the centre, there are free roadside parking spaces for longer duration.
