The biggest rock paintings of the Nordic countries can be found in Astuvansalmi in Ristiina. Numerous people travel to Mikkeli to see this remarkable historical destination. And it truly is worth seeing. The best place to see the rock paintings is on Lake Saimaa. A ship called M/S Jaarli organises trips to Astuvansalmi on Wednesdays until the end of August.

The first departure is from Mikkeli harbour at 10:00, and the arrival time in Astuvansalmi is around 12:30. The ship will return to Ristiina harbour at 14:15. VisitMikkeli offers a free bus drive back to Mikkeli.
The second departure is from Ristiina harbour at 14:30. Those coming from Mikkeli can go to Ristiina on a free bus that leaves from the Mannerheim statue at 13:45. You will be in Astuvansalmi around 15:45 and the bus will be back in Mikkeli around 18:30

The price of the cruise is 60 € per adult and 20 € per child. A hearty meal by Löydön Kartano will be served on the ship and the meal includes the main course, dessert and coffee/tea.
