Green Gold Culture Road

The Green Gold Culture Road

The Green Gold Culture road is located in South Savo, the woodland area which was cleared and burnt for cultivation by our forefathers. The road landscape is dominated by blue, clear-water lakes and lush forests – ”the green gold” of Finland. The 400-km-long route, south of the highway no 5, follows the shores of the Lake Saimaa – the largest in Finland. Starting from Vihantasalmi in the municipality of Mäntyharju the route goes via Ristiina, Puumala and Sulkava to the opera festival city of Savonlinna and to neighbouring Punkaharju. On the way there are also Anttola and Rantasalmi.

The Green Gold Culture Road offers beautiful and varied sceneries, peaceful villages, lots of sights and attractions, local cultural events, quality services for travellers and naturally the green gold of Finnish forests in its various forms represented by fine examples of wood architecture.

Enjoy the unhurried moments on the Green Gold Culture Road!
